Tip 1. Build plenty of competitive events into an away day.
Competition builds success, right? Wrong There will always be winners, and they may feel great. They may even sing “We Are The Champions” and dance, but what about the losers. There will always be losers. This is the nature of competition: there will be losers and winners. What will the losers think?
They will likely feel inadequate. This sounds like a recipe for team building. They will be unable to forget losing. Is the result a company with a stronger team? It’s unlikely.
Tip 2. Competition can bring out the best among team members.
Sometimes it doesn’t work this way. It can sometimes work the other way. When there is intense competition, even good people can resort to all sorts of dirty tricks. They can turn into a Jekyll and Hyde-like character.
While not everyone will respond in the same way, experience has shown that most people do. It is possible that someone will disrupt the team’s work by their maniacal, abusive desire to win. Aggression is often confused with competitiveness. This will not build a stronger team. Hardly.

A competitive environment, on the other hand, offers one reason to learn: To beat your team members and win. This sounds like something that could help build a stronger team. To achieve team goals, team members must work together in the workplace. This is the definition of cooperation!

Some people believe that a competitive spirit will improve performance by sharpening your attention and honing your skills. It doesn’t.
This is especially true if the task is complex and challenging. It takes time to fully grasp and comprehend what is being asked. Concentrating on winning is not possible.
Tip #5. Choose away-day events that reward only winners.
Keep in mind the losers. There will always be more. They’ll probably think it is a waste. They are actually quite fitting.
