Employee Motivation - The 5 Factors That Drive Performance

Motivation for employees is a major issue in many management positions. However, it doesn’t need to be. Instead, knowing how motivation affects employee performance, as well as understanding how to harness motivation to increase performance, can be reduced to five main keys. Businesses that wish to boost the motivation of employees must have a plan that continuously rewards employees for their achievements. I’m always amazed that not many organizations have such an incentive system.

But it is not true that all employees respond to the same motivators. Every person is unique and has different preferences and dislikes, as well as passions and interests. The job of a competent manager should be to discover how to recognize what drives every employee and how to use those motivations to accomplish the goals of the company, as well as the objectives of every employee.

The five most important motivational factors are satisfaction recognition, appreciation, motivation, inspiration, and compensation.

1. Motivation of employees through building satisfaction

In their work “The Service Profit Chain,” James Heskett, W. Earl Sasser, and Leonard Schlesinger make a compelling argument that regardless of your company’s size it is the only way you can make sustainable profits is to create an environment that draws attractive, focused, and skilled employees. That is, they must be driven to be present, engaged, and perform with a high level of performance.

The motivation of employees as it relates to employee satisfaction is incredibly crucial. It goes far beyond a “happier workforce.” Why?

Since there is a proven relationship between motivated, happy employees and satisfied customers, also, you should focus on generating satisfied employees and focus on motivating employees, and happy, motivated employees will care for your customers.

2. Employee Motivation through Real Appreciation

In some instances, managers undermine the motivation of employees in the absence of acknowledging the achievements and positive behavior of their workers. This means that employees aren’t aware of whether or not they’re doing their best.

Recently, an employee from one of my organizations told me, “The only time we ever hear anything from management is when we do something wrong!”

The good news is that smart managers can increase motivation for their employees by providing employees with personalized attention. This could be a simple acknowledgment of a pat on the back or a note written by hand, or a brief observation in the hall.

When expressing gratitude, be specific. Instead of saying, “We really are grateful for the good job you do around here,” the strategy could be, “I truly appreciate the way that you dealt with this Franklin Industries account last week when we had to ship their rush order to them late on Friday afternoon. Your efforts really made a impact.”

When they are specific, The employer is perceived as being more genuine, and the employee is aware that the actions they take are monitored. Also, a high motivating employee is an outcome.

3. Motivation of Employees Through Recognition

Many employees will give a deserved reward for something they won’t do for money. This is the manager’s best weapon to increase motivation for employees. Certain employees feel motivated due to the chance to see their name up on the walls, get an award at the annual dinner, or see their name on the company’s newsletter. This gives them the opportunity to receive an “emotional payoff” for their actions.

Explore ways to increase motivation for employees by recognizing the best at work. Bells should be rung every time an employee or team reaches the production goal. Display posters that include photos of team members who have the longest days without incidents. Awards are given out to those who have the best attendance record. Do something. It’s so cheap but extremely efficient in your efforts to boost motivation for employees.

4. Motivation of Employees Through Inspiration

The source of inspiration is leadership. The type of motivation for employees encompasses the company’s mission objectives and purpose. Employees would like to be part of an organization that’s going somewhere, that represents something, and offers an important service to the market.

If you’d like to lead an inspiring and mission-driven organization, then follow these steps to watch employees’ motivation increase dramatically.

You must have a clear goal In terms of knowing what you want to accomplish.
Be enthusiastic and passionate about your work. In the end, if you’re not enthusiastic and excited, your colleagues won’t.

You must be able to convey the purpose of its worth to the market. That is, what it is worth.

Make sure that everyone within the organization is aware of and able to effectively communicate the purpose.

Make sure that employees know what they are expected to do in the overall process of fulfilling the goals of the organization.

Find a connection between your purpose and the individual goals and values for your workers.

Make sure your mission is at the forefront of everyone within the organization.

5. Employee Motivation through Compensation

Certain employees are driven by money. Indeed, most employees people are driven by cash, at a minimum, for their daily necessities. Motivating employees with compensation may take the form of increases and commissions, bonuses for performance, and profit-sharing. It could also be any of the many “extra benefits” like automobiles, vacations or any other tangible item bought and used as rewards.

I spotted an interesting program at a hotel I recently stayed at. They have an advanced system that rewards employees on the basis of feedback from customers. All over the hotel, they’ve put up customer feedback forms as well as boxes to store the forms. When guests comment on the work of a hotel worker, the employee earns points which can be used to buy reward points like gifts, trips as well as other incentives.

Engaging Employee Motivation

No matter what method you choose, it is crucial to have a plan in place that helps build the motivation of employees. Every employee is not driven by the same factors or a mixture of variables. Giving all five of them – satisfaction, appreciation, reward motivation, inspiration, and compensation ensures that the business can contribute to the motivation of every employee.
