If the team building game goes well, there’s nothing like the excitement of a job done, thriving group spirit, and having a well-motivated team of employees; however, when team building events aren’t going well, there’s nothing more unpleasant. If events for team building are not successful, the opposite occurs: the group gets discouraged, and the team reaches the same low ebb as they had before. Thus, a lot of planning and forethought is needed if you’re planning an event to build your team.
Avoiding Ignorance
Coaching, also known as team building, is closely linked to teaching. Teaching requires focusing on the details and knowledge of the subject as well as that of students. If you’re planning to include a team-building game, you need to first look over your materials (or strategies) in your role as an instructor. What kind of lessons do you intend to teach? Think of yourself in the role of a pupil and imagine how easy it would be to understand the point of playing a game.
Participating in a team-building activity as an educator can assist you in filtering out unnecessary or boring actions (no need for wrestling games to build team spirit) and can also assist in planning your activities in greater detail. It’s not always enough. Sometimes, a team-building facilitator needs to organize other details of the sport, for example, assigning roles or grouping team members. Professionalism and organization are two essential qualities to consider when designing a game for team building.
Avoiding Dangerous Situations
Although you may be trying to include relevant information in your team-building activities, it is essential to avoid any potential danger that could arise. Accidentally hurting one of your participants, emotionally or physically, can be a very depressing and painful experience that could end your game entirely and turn the entire day useless. If you’re planning to host any kind of group activity for kids, ensure that you have insurance protection for any unavoidable injuries. (Otherwise, you might be forced to pay from your personal funds) Even if you have insurance, you should not put a child at risk. If you’re aware of your physical limits for some team members, you should not force them to push themselves beyond their capabilities.
There is also the need to be shrewd in managing your team members. Age, race, sex, and nationality shouldn’t be a factor when creating teams. Your efforts should focus on strengthening the group and uniting its members, and not focusing on their numerous different characteristics. Therefore, organizing teams based on race, age, or other factors that are not important can be a terrible choice.
Make sure to treat every player with respect. It’s not professional football, where you are able to scream at players while letting their million-dollar wages heal the injuries. A majority of your players are volunteers or paid employees. The act of chatting only generates negative energy. Positive energy can bring more benefits and keeps team members satisfied, and create an employee more than they are. Create an environment that is positive in order for your team to be motivated and eager to take on the game.
